Thing 23 Is this really the end? Or Just the Beginning?

Thing 23-
* Some of the easiest tools to use were Generator and Flickr, both now favorites.
* I am using these for sharing with the family.
* I was surprised how much I enjoyed the tutorial. I found myself bragging about the program to strangers. Often these people were not librarians but, event coordinators, friends or relatives.
* Lets try to keep it as a self-paced tutorial. Offer more tutorials or a chance to present a program using these skills.
* Yes, keep them coming. I enjoyed the process and the program.I wish I had more than dial up access at home I could play even more.

Thing 11 Library Thing

Library Thing could be used for a library sponsored book exchange. Use it to recommend favorite books to one another.

Thing 5 Discover Flickr

I created a free account on Flickr. Yes,I uploaded photos of Italy and Phoenix. I created a private group, a public group, and added several to this blog. Look over to the right.

Thing 6 More Flicker

I had fun. I created a trading card of The Cat in the Hat along with Thing One.

Thing 7 Blog about Technology

To blog you need to have something important to say and believe someone cares enough to read your bloggings. I find it hard to blog about small items that aren't important.
But, I also understand why the teens love to blog. As teens become independent and see the "Big World" through their own eyes they need to tell someone about it. Teens also need to tell the world they exist. A great tool for Teens.

Thing 8 Make Life really simple With RSS and a Newsreader

I set up a blogline account and added a lot of RSS feeds. All added to my blog.

I just wish I had time to read them all each day. Librarians never get the time to read. I know the public thinks we sit around and read all day.

Thing 9 Finding Feeds

I found lots of RSS feeds.I looked at all the available options and then played with Feedster, Topix.net and Technorati. But, I was most impressed with the type and number of RSS feeds available.

Thing 10: Play around with Image Generators

I found this one fun and posted several of them on my blog. See the yellow Sterling Library ticket and the VW with the Playaway message on the back window. I also created some very silly ones with our dear President along with his messages to his supporters in the background.
I also created a CD cover of Sophie giving my husband's head a bath.

Thing 12 Roll Your Own Search Engine

Ok, I created an account. But found this one awkward to use.

Thing 21 Podcasts, Smodcasts

I listened to several podcasts. All Songs Considered from National Public Radio and two different podcasts with book reviews. I think it would be fun to create a podcast from the children's department of the Loudoun County Library to the kids at an area school.

Thing 22 Audiobooks

Under my netlibrary account I searched through many interesting downloads. This time all for me.
One book I thought would be fun to listen to this Spring is the book, Letters to and From Jefferson 1819. This book of letters, tells of the many plants and trees Jefferson tried to grow on his mountaintop home in Monticello, Virginia. Because I live in a 1840 loghouse it would be fun to read about the varieties of plants that survived up on top of his mountain.

Thing 13 Tagging and Del.icio.us

Del.icio-us made me think of food. So I did some recipe bookmarking for fun.

Thing 14 Getting Not So Technical

I located 29,739 results with all blogs, 22,739 on blogs posted and only 5,449 blogs in the blog directory. All blogs received the highest hits.

Thing 15 Web 2.0 Embracing Change and Collaboration

I think of Web 2.0 as just the very beginning of something very important in the sharing and colloboration field.

I believe Web 2.0 will become another speedway similar to the original Internet or "Information Highway". It will be built much the same way it was built before the Web existed. I see it as a tool to quickly communicate and collaborate on multijurisdictional projects. Libraries and businesses will be able to link projects, ideas or programs for larger and larger audiences.

Web 2.0 is here to stay. I can't wait to see what Web 3.0 will bring.
Web 2.1 has already arrived since I last wrote this earlier comment.
Webex has already arrived.

Thing 16 So Whats a Wiki?

The negative side ...A Wiki can be a place for people to post misinformation or almost true facts. Often each contributor is treated as an equal. It doesn't seem to matter who contributes or... their source of information. Just because hundreds of people believe something is it true? Does that make it true? I also object to the way people use it to promote their own businesses.

But, the positive side....Wikis are great for sharing little known bits of odd information about a locality, talents, programming or ideas with one another. It is also a good source for children to begin a search for information because of its simple format. But a source? Is it sharing facts or just stories? Hmmmmm! Questionable but, yes I have used a Wiki for more information.

Thing 17 Playing Around With PBWiki

I created an account and made a Sterling renovations to do list. It could be used to remind each other of upcoming events or, as a way to share branch ideas with one another.

Thing 19 Discovering Web 2.0 Tools/PageFlakes

Thing 19
Pageflakes has some nifty gadgets. I had to laugh when I put in upcoming events in Berryville, Virginia and it said... there are none!

Thing 20 YouToo Can YouTube

YouTube has a video clip to match each and every person. Several of the librarian clips are a blast.

While blogging along look what I found...

http://www.mappr.com/about/

http://clustrmaps.com/getone.php
Played with a cluster map.

http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/dxolighting.php
Was in awe of many sites here!

http://www.krazydad.com/squaredcircle/
Impressed with this particular page.

http://www.flickr.com/groups/54718808@N00/pool/
Here I added several groups photos and several family only!
I also created a yellow ticket for the Sterling Library.

http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/cd.php
I created a CD cover of my husband and kitten Sophie.

Thing 2 Lifelong Learning

I normally see the big picture well in advance. I love change and enjoy planning for the future. I believe life passes us all by if we don't try new things.I have no problem playing and learn best by trying new things.
I view problems as fun challenges. I love to learn. I would be a professional student if.... only I had unlimited funds. Next best is working in a library.
I notice popular trends.I want to give our customers all the newest services available as soon as possible. I want to see LCPL continue to be the center of many people's lives by changing as technology and society changes.
I am enjoying this Web 2.0 tutorial and plan to document the web addresses I find most useful for future programs and/or services for our customers. My least favorite is not being able to leap forward immediately.
